MEET THE SPORTS CLUBHOUSES’ TEAM

Overview

The team members are all specialist consultants or directors in their own fields. Our team members have a passion for sport life having grown up as players and then becoming captains, chairmen and even presidents of sports clubs and leagues in the UK. Consequently, they know what lies at the heart of clubs, how committees think, and how difficult it is in the current climate to sustain participation in sport. The Sports Clubhouses’ team want to help provide the best facilities, products, advice and guidance at the most competitive costs so that our buildings can be sustainable for many years to come.

The men behind this mission:

Steve Macdonald – Director

Steve MacdonaldSteve will share his considerable knowledge as Sports Clubhouses Lead Design Consultant and is the figurehead for the company. Steve’s passion for sport and good design will marry in with his strong entrepreneurial skills to make Sports Clubhouses the leading sports club support company in the UK.

Steve Macdonald gained valuable experience prior to forming Macdonald Design including working for three leading commercial design practices before being appointed as Design and Development Director for the Sears Retail Group which included Miss Selfridge, Wallis and Selfridges. Having been head hunted by 2 leading London design companies Steve decided he would be better suited to starting his own company and consequently Macdonald Design was founded in 1985 to work in the retail, office and catering sectors. The company has diversified into various arenas and Steve’s contacts and experience in the sports and recreational field led the company to recognition as one of the leading sports and leisure building design companies. Steve heads up the company as lead consultant and designer.

As well as his responsibilities to Macdonald Design, Steve also spends a large amount of time working with sports governing bodies including the ECB and Surrey County Cricket Club. His considerable experience in the design of sports buildings, in particular, has led to his appointment as Chairman of the Facilities Working Group for Surrey County Cricket Club of which he is also a Board Trustee. In this role, Steve provides the county with invaluable advice and guidance on the design and management of sports related projects. His expertise in building connections and partnerships with governing bodies and local authorities has proven to be an important asset to the county.

Steve’s biggest passion is sport and he has spent a vast amount of his spare time playing and being involved with sports clubs. Over the last ten years he has been a player, colts manager, chairman of cricket and then president of the sports club at his beloved Purley Sports Club. He now runs the development committee for the sports club. Steve also loves his football and especially Crystal Palace his local club. Steve shares this love for Palace with his family and the majority of the Sports Clubhouses team!
